7 6 2010For several years our town has proudly been called The Capital of Wine.
You may ask where this term comes from. Hopefully the following facts will provide sufficient evidence. Valtice has been renowned for vine growing and wine making for hundreds of years. Valtice accounts for the second largest area of vineyards in the Czech Republic, almost 642 hectares. The well known Křížový Cellar with the capacity of one million litres of wine, the historical chateau cellar and dozens of other smaller cellars and wineries can be found here.

This variety of red wine is harvested later at the time of wine harvest. Rubinet, originally called Tintet is a cross of Revolta, Alibernet and André grapes.
The vines grow abundantly and are of an upright growth with sparsely leaved branches. The leaves are shiny and of a pentagonal shape. The bunches of grapes are of a medium size and thickly branched. The actual grape is small to medium in size, elliptical with dark blue almost black skin. The pulp and juice are of a strong colour. Rubinet makes the grapes go darker quite early in the season but the grapes are left on the vines till mid October to lose their acidity.

2 4 2010The village of Velké Bílovice is situated in the south-eastern corner of the Velké Pavlovice wine making area. It is a traditional wine making village with vast vineyards accounting for the area of over 800 hectares and being the largest of its kind in the Czech Republic. By 1 May 2005 there were 933 wine makers here. The composition of the soil for vine growing is made up by windblown dusty particles with chalky clay underneath. In some areas with lower altitude the soil is a lot darker. This soil variety provides good conditions for growing the majority of wines, both white and red, red wines being of full body and pleasant bouquet.
