For several years our town has proudly been called The Capital of Wine.

You may ask where this term comes from. Hopefully the following facts will provide sufficient evidence. Valtice has been renowned for vine growing and wine making for hundreds of years. Valtice accounts for the second largest area of vineyards in the Czech Republic, almost 642 hectares. The well known Křížový Cellar with the capacity of one million litres of wine, the historical chateau cellar and dozens of other smaller cellars and wineries can be found here.

The village of Velké Bílovice is situated in the south-eastern corner of the Velké Pavlovice wine making area. It is a traditional wine making village with vast vineyards accounting for the area of over 800 hectares and being the largest of its kind in the Czech Republic. By 1 May 2005 there were 933 wine makers here. The composition of the soil for vine growing is made up by windblown dusty particles with chalky clay underneath. In some areas with lower altitude the soil is a lot darker. This soil variety provides good conditions for growing the majority of wines, both white and red, red wines being of full body and pleasant bouquet.

Local dialect and some seemingly strange expressions go hand in hand with this picturesque small village of Hlohovec. It has also maintained its folklore traditions which complement the beauty of the surrounding scenery, local cuisine, outstanding wines, songs and hospitality of Hlohovec people.

Love is like a teardrop. It forms in an eye and falls to the heart. This saying is also poignant for the Lednice-Valtice area. Once visitors come here they will always remember it.
