The village of Velké Bílovice is situated in the south-eastern corner of the Velké Pavlovice wine making area. It is a traditional wine making village with vast vineyards accounting for the area of over 800 hectares and being the largest of its kind in the Czech Republic. By 1 May 2005 there were 933 wine makers here. The composition of the soil for vine growing is made up by windblown dusty particles with chalky clay underneath. In some areas with lower altitude the soil is a lot darker. This soil variety provides good conditions for growing the majority of wines, both white and red, red wines being of full body and pleasant bouquet.

Our company endeavours to reflect these various locations into the character of wine. We grow our vines on the area of 9 hectares of ecologically treated vineyards. Wines ferment and age in stainless steel tanks, some red wines age in oak barrels. Our wines are on offer mainly in wine shops and restaurants. Annually we produce up to 180 000 bottles. Viticulture reflects the life of our village and I have been able to meet its various forms since my early childhood. I helped my parents in their vineyard first, I helped with wine pressing in the cellar and later with the actual wine tasting. This way of life formed my future and despite my early objections during this hard work I chose wine making as my life career. After finishing my course of viticulture at university in 1985, I focused on cultivating vines that are resistant to diseases and on ecological vine growing. While doing so I also visited and cooperated with leading wine centres and learnt more about grapevine in various companies and countries. This recognition made me produce my own wine, so in 1992 I started a family wine making business. The beginnings were, as always, very hard, but in a very short time our wines became popular and at the moment they have a very good reputation in the Czech gastronomy.

My philosophy is to make wine in an ecological-friendly way, in accordance with nature to lift our spirits and mind. This is why I named the company “Small Wine Maker”, which expresses a playful attitude to grapevine, wine and their lovers.
