7 6 2010For several years our town has proudly been called The Capital of Wine.
You may ask where this term comes from. Hopefully the following facts will provide sufficient evidence. Valtice has been renowned for vine growing and wine making for hundreds of years. Valtice accounts for the second largest area of vineyards in the Czech Republic, almost 642 hectares. The well known Křížový Cellar with the capacity of one million litres of wine, the historical chateau cellar and dozens of other smaller cellars and wineries can be found here.
In Valtice there are the National Wine Centre and the National Salon of Wines presenting the top hundred wines of the Czech Republic. The only School of Viticulture in the country can be found here as well as the Academy of Viticulture which provides sommelier courses. The Valtice wine market is the largest of its kind in the Czech Republic as well as in Central Europe. This year marked its 43rd anniversary.
Despite all that, Valtice isn’t just alive with wine. In this small town plenty of other events are organised so it is always worthwhile stopping here. See for yourself.
